Christopher Walsh Sinka (USA) 

Christopher WalshChristopher Walsh Sinka is an American conductor and singer living and working in Riga, Latvia. His freelance work as a choral singer, conductor, and early music performer has taken him across Europe and the United States. He has worked previously as a conductor with the Emīls Dārziņš Mixed Choir and Mixed Choir "Dziesmuvara", and he is a singer with the renowned Youth Choir "Kamēr..." Christopher appears regularly at St. Saviour's Anglican Church in Riga, where he curates concert performances of liturgical music and conducts the congregational choir.

Under the initiative of Aina Kalnciema, Christopher founded the Riga Bach Festival Choir in 2016. Their debut performance in the 2016 Riga Bach Festival was highly acclaimed. Most recently, Christopher lead the premiere performance of Gabriel Jackson's Exile Meditations, a new work for four solo singers addressing the refugee experience. In June 2017, working together with colleague Agnese Urka, Christopher and the Emils Darzins Mixed Choir earned Third Prize in the International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf, Germany. In 2017-2018, Christopher will lead the Bach Festival Choir in an all-Monteverdi program, reprise performances of Jackson's Exile Meditations both in Latvia and abroad, and conduct a short program with the Youth Choir "Kamēr..." and two other young conducting talents.

Christopher is a graduate of Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music, where he received a Master of Music in Choral Conducting and was honored as the outstanding conducting student in his graduating class. At Northwestern, Christopher gained valuable experience studying the theory of early music with Robert Gjerdingen and singing in the Bienen Contemporary/Early Vocal Ensemble. His primary conducting teachers include Māris Sirmais, Donald Nally, and Ethan Sperry, and he has worked in masterclasses with Joseph Flummerfelt, Frieder Bernius, Erik Van Nevel and Andrew Megill.

Riga Bach Festival Choir

Founded in 2016 under the initiative of Aina Kalnciema, the Riga Bach Festival Choir features current and former singers from many of Latvia's top professional and amateur choirs. Dedicated to performance of early music, their debut performance in November 2016 featured works by Bach, Schutz and Monteverdi. The choir is led by founding conductor Christopher Walsh Sinka.
