Musica Alta Ripa

Musica Alta Ripa was founded in 1984. The ensemble is one of the most exciting period instrument groups to have emerged in Germany in recent years. Major engagements have included Herne Early Music Days, Bach Festival Leipzig, Flanders Festival in Bruges, Bach Days in Berlin, Bodensee-Festival, Europeen Festival Passau , Casa de Mateus Summer Academy of Early Music in Portugal.or Lufthansa Festival of Baroque Music London. Its USA debut took place at Bach Festival Philadelphia in 2000. They also made concert tours through the Near East and to Asia.

The ensemble presents all sorts of different aspects of chamber music between 1600 and 1800. Some of its performances involve experimental forms of presentation such as the dramatic scene and dance. The ensemble works together with vocal soloists and choirs on an extensive repertoire ranging from Monteverdi's Orfeo to Mozart's Davidde penitente. Musica Alta Ripa performed with an extraordinary success at the Opera in Hannover Francesco Cavalli's "Il Giasone", with which they were invited to other theatre places. Musica Alta Ripa opened the season 2004/2005 at the opera house in Hannover with scenes and arias from different operas from Agostino Steffani.

The extraordinary CD productions of Musica Alta Ripa, all on the MDG label, have captured the attention of the press and public alike. Their recordings focus on Italian chamber cantatas, instrumental music of the French late baroque, chamber music and concertos by Bach's pupils, and a major series featuring Bach's complete solo concertos. They recently recorded sonatas, concertos and concert overtures of Georg Philipp Telemann . Three CDs has already been released, Vol 4 and Vol 5 are in preparation.. Vol 1 was honoured with the Echo Klassik Award 2004 for the best recording of music from the 17 th and 18 th century

The ensemble has also been honoured with the Diapason d'or (Leclair, Trio Sonatas op. 4; MDG L 3428), German Record Critics Prize (Müthel, concertos and Chamber Music; MDG 325 0452-2), the Cannes Classical Award, 1998 (Bach, Solo concertos Vol. 2: MDG 309 0682-2) and the Echo Klassik Award 1998 (Goldberg, Chamber Music, MDG 309 0709-2). In 2002 they had been honoured with the "Music award of Lower Saxony" in appreciation of their most creative performances.

The members of Musica Alta Ripa are all highly esteemed specialists. The ensemble brings together the talents of highly experienced and respected musicians. They also cooperate with other renowned ensembles, including the Cantus Cölln, Das Kleine Konzert, Freiburger Baroque Orchestra, Hannoversche Hofkapelle and Orchestra of the 18 th Century.
