Antra and Normunds Viksnes


Antra and Normunds Viksne, who both hold degrees as piano duo performers, were taught by Professor Gunta Sproge and Maris Svinka, but later specialised in the well known master class of Academia Baltica professor Hose Ribera and master classes of professor Liisa Pohjola (Finland) and Helmut Ohlof (Germany). They have performed in many international chamber music festivals playing music of such modern Latvian composers as Kalsons, Mence, Vasks, Vecumnieks, Mezaraups, Karlsons including first performances. Many of these pieces have been dedicated to Antra and Normunds Viksne. They have made some studio recordings for Latvian Radio and Latvian Television. Antra and Normunds Viksne have given concerts in Finland, Poland, Spain, France, England, Russia, U.S.A., Canada, Sweden, Baltic states and others. The pianists are prizewinners in the 1st International Piano duo competition in Lithuania (Visaginas, 1997 1st prize and prize “The Best Interpretation Of Contemporary Composition”). In 2001 duo was awarded the Grand Music Prize of Latvia.
