Dorothea Seel (Traverso)

Dorothea SeelDorothea Seel studied the at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, graduating with  distinction. She went on to study early music at Staatliche Hochschule in Trossingen.
Since 1997 she has appeared regularly as a soloist with the English Concert, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the New London Consort, the Hanover Band and the London Baroque und London Classical Players under conductors such as Simon Rattle, Roger Norrington, Trevor Pinnock, Marc Elder, Charles Mackerras.
From 2001 she has also played in German orchestras such as Concerto Köln, the Ludwigsburg Festival Orchestra, Münchner Kammerorchester, the Bremen Kammerphilharmonie, Hofkapelle München, Concentus Musicus Wien, Harnoncourt etc; and in the period before it was disbanded in 2006 she was playing with Musica Antiqua Köln. As a soloist she has toured many countries in Europe and played at the Lincoln Center in New York, as well as in Japan, New Zealand and Mexico. In her capacity as universty lecturer, she has given master classes in the baroque, classical and romantic flute at Southampton University (England), the State Conservatory in Trossingen, the Institute of Musicology in Innsbruck, the University of Music in Vienna, the State Conservatories in Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, Vienna, in 2012 at Nanyang University of Fine Arts in Singapore, the University of North Texas and the “trigonale” Festival.
Besides her interest in 19. th century flutes and her virtuosic romantic concert repertoire for flute& fortpiano she founded the Cellini Windquintett featuring music of the romantic era on original instruments
In 2010 Seel founded the “Munich Baroque Soloists” and released Vivaldi Concertos by Hänssler Classics and Johann Zach Concerti by Music Museum Label in 2014. Their next CD will be Bach Concertos in 2016 by Hänssler Classisc and a second Johann Zach CD.
Dorothea Seels recent CD featuring  the complete CPE Bach Solo and Obligato Flutesonatas has been released in 2015 by Hänssler Classic.
In 2016 Hänssler Classic will be releasing a CD featuring G. F. Handel flute sonatas with Luca Guglielmi.
