Andreas Helm (Baroque Oboe, Baroque Flute)

Andreas HelmAndreas Helm was taught the recorder and oboe and trained in the theory of teaching musical instruments under Carin van Heereden at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz. After graduating in 1999 he went to Amsterdam where he took a three-year diploma in concert performance under Alfredo Bernardini. He plays the oboe and recorder with Capella Leopoldina, the Irish Baroque Orchestra, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the Munich Baroque Soloists, the Munich Hofkapelle (Court Orchestra), the Cordia Ensemble and Concerto Köln (Cologne); in addition, he is a founding member of two ensembles – Rossi Piceno and Schikaneders Jugend (Schickaneder’s Youth). Helm was invited to play as first oboe and recorder soloist with the European Union Baroque Orchestra for seasons 2001 and 2002/3, and in 2004 he co-founded the ensemble Barucco with the conductor Heinz Ferlesch.
Helm has won prizes at many competitions, both for chamber music and solo work (e.g. Gradus ad Par- nassum and Premio Bonporti). He has given concerts all over Europe and also travelled to China, Japan, Mexico, Singapore and South Africa. He has made recordings for cpo, Sony, harmonia mundi, Capriccio, Cavalli, ORF, Carus, etc.
Helm ist currently Professor of historic oboes at the private university Konservatorium Wien (Vien- na) and also lectures on the baroque oboe at the Music University in Graz. In addition he teaches the baroque oboe, recorder and chamber music at the Aestas Musica Summer School of Baroque Music in Varaždin of which he himself has been director since 2012.
