Madara un Daumants Liepiņi

As siblings, Madara Liepina and Daumants Liepins perform together since childhood. In 2003, they got the 1st prize at the Brother and Sister international competition for piano duos in St. Petersburg, Russia.  Since then, they perform merely as violinist and pianist – recently they were recognised as the best chamber ensemble of Jāzeps Vītols Academy of Music and had live concert at Latvian Radio Classics. They have performed together in many festivals and concerts in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden, Russia, and Armenia.
Now, Madara and Daumants are studying at Jāzeps Vītols Academy of Music with prof. Jānis Maļeckis. They have also had masterclasses with David Dolan, Sergei Azizian, Tim Frederiksen, and others.

Daumants LiepinšDaumants Liepins (Liepiņš) is a young Latvian pianist, born in Ogre, Latvia, started to play piano at age of 5. Quite soon he started successfully participating in piano competitions, winning many prizes, including  1st prize at the National Piano Competition (2003),  1st prize the International Competition for Young Musicians in Sigulda, Latvia (2007), 3rd prize (2007) and 2nd prize and Special Rainer Kadenbach award for the best interpretation of a Beethoven sonata (2009) at an international competition for young performers in Oldenburg, Germany as well as 1st prize at Inese Galante young talents competition.(2014) and first prize at the Chamber music competition in Latvian Academy of Music in 2015.

Daumants performs as a soloist and chamber musician in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, and Armenia. Daumants has performed with Kaunas Symphony orchestra and Helsingborg Symphony orchestra, and  he is the Young Artist of the Glafsfjordens Musik Festival in  Sweden in 2015 and 2016.  Daumants has a permanent chamber music partner with violinist Madara Liepina, with whom he won the first prize at the Chamber music competition in Latvian Academy of Music in 2015 and 3rd prize at T. Gaidamovich Chamber Music Competition – Festival in Russia.

Recently, he was chosen to be one of 4 participants of Mitsuko Uchida Workshop in Carnegie Hall. Besides that, he has participated in masterclases with Dmitri Bashkirov, Alexander Ghindin, Roberto Poli, Erik Tawaststjerna, Mats Widlund, and others.

Currently, Daumants is living in Riga and studying at Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music with prof. Arnis Zandmanis and attending soloist courses at Ingesund / Karlstad University in Sweden with prof. Julia Mustonen-Dahlkvist.
