The String Chamber Orchestra of the Riga Institute of Pedagogy and Education Management was founded in 1992. It consists mostly of the students of the Faculty of Music. Every year the orchestra prepares several programmes. The solo parts are performed by either the Professors or the best of the students. There are 16 musicians in the orchestra.

This year the orchestra took part in a recording session organised by the Latvia Radio and the Pianist Festival organised by the Institutes of Pedagogy of the Baltics. Every year the orchestra performs a gala concert with two part programme in some concert hall in Riga. For special wider projects also professionals musicians of brass and woodwind instruments are included.

Since foundation and until now the conductor and the artistic director of The String Chamber Orchestra of the Riga Institute of Pedagogy and Education Management is Guntars Bernats.

The repertoire of the orchestra ranges from baroque
(Flute concerto, piano concertos in d and g by J. S. Bach, works by
H. Purcell and J. Pachelbel) to contemporary music (A. Pärt’s “Summa”, “Fratres”, The Simple Symphony by B. Britten, 2 minuets by
K. Penderecky), as well as music by Latvian composers.
