Iveta Viluma (1976)

Iveta Viluma was born on 1976 in the city of Rezekne. After graduating from musical college of Rezekne (named after J.Ivanovs) she entered J.Vitols Latvian Academy of Music in organ class with doc.Talivaldis Deksnis and piano class with prof.T.Bikis. So her talent has evolved in two directions - as organist and as pianist. After primely completion of bachelor studies she is now continuing studies for master's degree in Guildhall School of Music & Drama (United Kingdom) piano class of professor Joan Havill. Her successful participation in competitions just confirms that (twice she has participated in international organists competition of M.K.Ciurlionis in Vilnius, getting 3rd prize on September, 1999). Several times she has been performing together with symphonic orchestra of Rezekne.

She has been working as an organist in Jesus Heart cathedral in Rezekne for pretty long time already. She has been giving recitals in Norway, Poland, Belorussia, Lithuania, and many churches in Latvia. She played organ on visitation service of Pope John Paul II in Aglona on 1994.

But her best achivement is successful participation in 5th Lahti festival of young organists in Finland on July of 1997. Competing with many skilled, authoritative organists, she got 3rd prize and a special prize from organisator of competition Aimo Kankanen. She succeeded not only because of good technical skills, natural musicality and attraction, but also because of her ability to make emotional contact with the public, and excite the jury and listeners with cantilena sound of the organ, and depth and uniqueness of interpretation. Composer Naji Hakim who was in jury, was so impressed that wrote a Bagatelle on Latvian folk song theme and dedicated it to Iveta.
